Berlin is getting more and more challenging in terms of finding car parking as the city is expanding parking zones and removing sometimes even street parking to make space for cycling lanes. It is especially
difficult to find car parking in the evening and at night, so try to park earlier in the day if at all possible. In the city centre you will usually have to pay for parking, but there are still free options available in some areas.
Parking fees of 1 EUR per hour apply on most streets in Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain from Monday – Saturday between 9 am and 12 at night. Higher fees apply in more lively areas for example 2 EUR on Wichertstraße and around the Kollwitzplatz and 3 EUR near the Max-Schmeling-Halle during special events. Sundays and bank holidays are free to park.
Parking meters are on the street. Be sure to bring enough change.
It is also possible to pay via mobile phone, however, we don't recommand it as this method necessitates an initial sign-up. Additionally, extra fees may be incurred by your phone provider.
It is mandatory to display the parking ticket within the vehicle in a manner that ensures its clear visibility from the exterior.
If you are looking for free public street parking areas in Berlin, go to the offical Berlin "Parkraumbewirtschaftung" Webpage. The areas marked yellow have paid street parking. The ones without the yellow, are areas that are still free. There are still some areas, e.g. in Friedrichshain or in northern Prenzlauer Berg.

The best accomodation option if you want to park your car right outside your holiday apartment, are our Friedrichshain holiday rentals on Strassmannstraße.
The Straßmannstraße airbnbs are inside the special emission zone. So, you should get the Umweltplakette when you stay here. More information about the emission zone can be found below.
Our other apartments are also possible options, but you will have to walk around 600 meters to reach free parking areas.
Keep in mind you will have to apply for a low emission zone sticker (Umweltplakette) when you go by car to the city centre of Berlin. This permits you to drive around the low emission zone without the risk of being fined.
There are three colour categories, according to the exhaust emission type of your vehicle. Your vehicle will need to qualify for the green category.
Buy a badge online, e.g. here: https://www.tuev-nord.de/en/private/traffic/car-motorcycle-caravan/emissions-sticker/order, around two weeks before you plan to travel, to ensure that you receive it in time.
You can also get the badge in Berlin, e.g. at a TÜV station (Residenzstr. 66, 13409 Berlin). You need your car's registration papers to buy it.

The best accomodation option if you want to avoid going inside the Umweltzone and buying the Low Emission Zone Sticker are our holiday apartments on Wichertstraße, Dunckerstraße and on Grellstraße as they are just outside the special emission zone. This means that you won’t need the Umwelt Plakette if you are staying there and don’t want to drive into the city centre.
The Straßmannstraße Airbnbs are inside the special emission zone. So, you should get the Umweltplakette when you stay here.
