Berlin is getting more and more challenging for car parking as the city is expanding parking zones and removing parking spaces. It gets more difficult in the evening and at night, so try to park earlier in the day if possible. In the city centre you will usually have to pay for parking.

Parking Fees in Berlin

As of 28.7.2024, parking is free of charge on Strassmannstraße, but there are plans to turn it into a paid area, so be careful.

Parking fees of 1-3 EUR per hour apply on Wichertstraße, Grellstraße, and Dunckerstraße from Monday – Saturday between 9 am and 12 at night. Sundays are free. Parking meters are on the street. Be sure to bring enough change.

A good alternative, when you are staying here, is to park your car further north, where parking fees don’t apply, for example on Schonensche Straße, which is only 600 meters away from the Wichertstraße and Dunckerstraße apartments, or on Pieskower Weg, which is near Grellstraße. You can then walk back to your apartment.

The Low Emission Zone (Umweltzone)

Keep in mind you will have to apply for a low emission zone sticker (Umweltplakette) when you go by car to the city centre of Berlin. This permits you to drive around the low emission zone without the risk of being fined.

There are three colour categories, according to the exhaust emission type of your vehicle. Your vehicle will need to qualify for the green category.

Buy a badge online, e.g. here: https://www.tuev-nord.de/en/private/traffic/car-motorcycle-caravan/emissions-sticker/order, around two weeks before you plan to travel, to ensure that you receive it in time.

You can also get the badge in Berlin, e.g. at a TÜV station (Residenzstr. 66, 13409 Berlin). You need your car's registration papers to buy it.

Our holiday apartments on Wichertstraße, Dunckerstraße and on Grellstraße are just outside the special emission zone. This means that you won’t need the Umwelt Plakette if you are staying there and don’t want to drive into the city centre.

The Straßmannstraße airbnbs are inside the special emission zone. So, you should get the Umweltplakette when you stay here.
